Ep. 69: Interview with an Expert (feat. Maddy Nagel)

Your Co-Host Rachel sits down with friend and clinical psychology PhD candidate Maddy Nagel to discuss Christian Gray, the value of therapy, clinical diagnosis, and the importance of human connection. It was so much fun to sit down, share a drink, and hear all about her expertise! Huge thanks to Maddy for taking the time to talk with us (outside of our regular DnD games). QUICK NOTE: Due to some technical difficulties, Rachel’s audio sounds a bit like she’s inside of a can. We did the best we could with what we had, but sometimes the gremlins decide to come out and play.

And now a message (and sources) from Maddy Nagel:

Who actually does BDSM??”

Turns out there’s not really one, specific type. Be a kinky little weirdo, because it’s not really that weird. Do what makes you happy, but don’t hurt anyone*

*unless they consent**

**that means actually consent and not just not say no. Consent only exists if you’re sober, have equal power to say no, and can be revoked at any time for any reason. (I’m talking to you, CHRISTIAN, you creeeeeep)

Is it realistic that his early trauma is related to becoming an abuser later in life?”

…sort of? Hypersexuality throughout life may explain some of the relationship between early abuse and later abusing.
